What it is

Vedaone is made by Atrey Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd., an Ahmedabad, Gujarat-based manufacturer of Ayurvedic, herbal and cosmetic products. Sandalwood, santhanam in Tamil and chandan in Hindi, is the smell of temple paste, sandal soap and the wooden boxes where good things were kept.

The oil is warm, soft and woody, and it lasts much longer in the air than sharper oils. It is used a drop or two at a time, in a diffuser, on a cloth, or diluted in a carrier oil, never neat on skin. Choosing between Vedaone oils? Sandalwood for warm and woody; eucalyptus for sharp and fresh; clove for spicy.

Tip: Put one drop on the inside of a wooden jewellery or saree box. The smell stays for weeks.
