What it is

Vedaone is made by Atrey Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd., an Ahmedabad-based manufacturer of Ayurvedic, herbal and cosmetic products. Eucalyptus oil is the sharp, clean smell most Indian families know from the hill stations, where the trees line every road up the ghats.

This is a small bottle of strong oil, thin and clear, and one or two drops will fill a room. At home it went into a bowl of hot water, onto a handkerchief, or into the mop bucket, always a few drops at a time and never neat on skin. Choosing between Vedaone oils? Eucalyptus for sharp and fresh; clove for warm and spicy; sandalwood for soft and woody.

Tip: Put two drops on a cotton pad and tuck it into the wardrobe. The whole shelf smells of the hills for a week.
