Shravan Mondays, when the only sweet allowed in the house was a rajgira laddu.
- What: Rajgira (amaranth) laddu
- Pack: 200 g
- Brand: Sohum, from Khed Shivapur near Pune
- Best for: Upwas days, Ekadashi, Navratri
What it is
Sohum Udyog makes traditional Maharashtrian food at Khed Shivapur near Pune, and a good part of its range is farali, food for upwas days. This laddu is one of the simplest.
It has just two things in it: puffed rajgira (amaranth) and jaggery. The seeds are popped until white, then stirred into hot jaggery and shaped into balls. It is light and crisp rather than dense, closer to a chikki than a besan laddu. Choosing between fasting sweets? Rajgira laddu for round and crunchy; rajgira roll for bars that snap; peanut balls when groundnut is allowed.
Tip: Pack two in foil for a fasting day at work. They travel without crumbling.
Goes well with: Sohum Rajgira Roll, Sohum Upwas Bhajani, Heera Sago Seeds Medium
