Dink laddus in a steel dabba, arriving from Pune with the new baby's first visitors.
- What: Dink laddu, made with gond (edible gum)
- Pack: 250 g
- Brand: Sohum, from Khed Shivapur near Pune
- Contains: Milk (ghee), wheat, nuts
What it is
Sohum is made by Sohum Udyog at Khed Shivapur, just outside Pune, a company started by the late Smt. Sushila Gargate. Alongside its atta, it makes the Maharashtrian sweets that families used to spend a whole afternoon on.
Dink laddu is the winter one, and the one that turns up when a baby is born. Gond is fried in ghee until it puffs, then bound with jaggery, wheat flour, dry coconut, dry ginger and nuts. Each bite has a little crunch from the gum. Choosing between Sohum laddus? Dink for the crunchy winter classic; methi for something bitter-sweet; paushtik for seeds and nuts.
Tip: Warm one for ten seconds in the microwave on a cold evening. The ghee softens and it tastes just made.
Goes well with: Sohum Fenugreek Methi Ladoo, Sohum Paushtik Ladoo, Everest Masala Tea
