What it is
Laxminarayan has been making its chiwda in Pune since 1945, from a shop in Bhavani Peth, and the business is now run by the family's third generation. Bakarwadi is Pune's other famous tea-time snack.
Maida pastry is rolled around a filling of coconut, sesame, dry mango powder, chilli, coriander and mint, then cut and fried into crisp spirals. It is sweet, sour and hot at once. Choosing between Laxminarayan snacks? Bakarwadi for a tangy, spiced bite; Laxminarayan Cornflakes Chiwda for something lighter; Laxminarayan Magic Masala Wafer 60g for chips.
Tip: Put out a small bowl rather than the whole packet. Bakarwadi disappears faster than anyone admits.
Goes well with: Laxminarayan Cornflakes Chiwda, Everest Masala Tea, Laxminarayan Besan Laddu
