What it is

Sri Krishnaiah Chetty started Cothas in Bangalore in 1949, roasting and grinding coffee for homes and hotels. Seventy-odd years later it is still the tin a lot of Karnataka and Tamil families reach for without thinking.

The 15% chicory is the point. It gives the decoction that dark, slightly bitter depth that stands up to hot milk and a spoon of sugar. Want to play with the ratio? Our Kumbakonam Degree coffees go from 60:40 all the way to pure coffee.

Tip: Let the decoction drip on its own. Pressing it through makes it cloudy and bitter, and no amount of milk will fix that.
