What it is
Chitale Bandhu Mithaiwale was founded in Pune in 1950 by the brothers Raghunath and Narsinha Chitale. It grew out of a dairy their father, B.G. Chitale, set up in 1939.
Chivda is the Maharashtrian poha mixture, and the Lite keeps it simple: rice flakes with besan, green chilli and curry leaves, finished with amchur, salt and a pinch of hing. There are no nuts, raisins or sugar on the list, so it tastes plainer and more savoury than the Special. Choosing between Chitale chivdas? Lite for plain and savoury; Special for sweet, nutty and busy; patal poha for thin, crackly flakes.
Tip: Mix a handful with chopped onion, tomato and a squeeze of lemon for a two-minute chivda chaat.
Goes well with: Chitale Bandhu Special Chivda, Chitale Bandhu Patal Poha Chivda, Taj Mahal Tea
