What it is

Chitale Bandhu Mithaiwale was founded in Pune in 1950 by brothers Raghunath and Narsinha Chitale, growing out of a dairy business their father B.G. Chitale started in 1939.

Kaju katli is cashew paste cooked with sugar, rolled thin and cut into diamonds. This one is 52.5% cashew with cardamom, and topped with silver leaf. It is smooth, soft and not too sweet, the piece everyone picks first from a mithai box. Choosing between Chitale sweets? Kaju elaichi katli for classic cashew; kaju amba burfi for cashew with mango; bakarwadi if you want savoury alongside.

Tip: Serve at room temperature. Straight from the fridge, katli turns hard and loses its smell of cardamom.
