What it is

Narasu's was founded in Salem, Tamil Nadu, in 1926 by V Lakshmi Narasimhan, known as Narasu, who gave the brand its name. It marks its 100th year in 2026. Udhayam is its 80:20 blend: 80% coffee and 20% chicory, ground for the steel filter.

The chicory gives the decoction body and a slight bitterness, so it stands up to plenty of hot milk and still tastes of coffee. Choosing between filter coffees? Udhayam 80:20 for the everyday strong cup, Kumbakonam Degree 70:30 for more chicory and a darker cup, Kumbakonam Degree Pure if you want no chicory at all.

Tip: Press the powder down lightly before pouring the water. Pack it hard and it drips all morning.
