What it is

Aachi Masala was founded in Chennai in 1995 by A.D. Padmasingh Isaac and is known for South Indian spice blends. This mix is its take on Tirunelveli halwa, the sweet that town is famous for.

Made the old way, the halwa is cooked down from wheat for hours until it turns glossy, dark and wobbly. This mix brings wheat, sugar, ghee, cardamom and cashew in one packet, so the stirring takes far less time. Choosing between Aachi sweet mixes? Tip: Keep a spoon of ghee back and add it at the end. When the halwa rolls off the pan in one piece, it is done.
