What it is

A2B was founded by K.S. Thirupathi Raja, who started out making sweets in Rajapalayam, Tamil Nadu. The brand takes its name from its outlet in Adyar, Chennai, and a sweet shop like that gets judged on its mixture as much as its halwa.

This is the fuller kind: gram-flour and rice-flour bits with puffed rice, green gram, cashew, peanut and almond, plus raisins and dried coconut for a little sweetness against the salt and spice. Choosing between A2B mixtures? Special for the nuts and raisins; Madras mixture for the everyday plate; dhall mixture for a simpler lentil crunch.

Tip: Tip a bowl out, add chopped raw onion, coriander and a squeeze of lime, and it becomes a five-minute evening chaat.
