What it is
The name 777 is the licence number the business was given under India's Fruit Products Order. Its roots go back to Hotel Sri Rama Bhavan on Thambu Chetty Street in Madras, 1933. Inji urugai is fresh ginger cut small and pickled in oil with chilli and spices.
It is sharp, hot and a little sweet from the ginger itself, which is why it sits so well next to anything heavy. Choosing between 777 pickles? Ginger for sharp heat; Mango Ginger for a milder, fragrant tang; Garlic for mellow, spicy cloves.
Tip: Put a small spoon beside curd rice at the end of a big meal. That is where it belongs.
Goes well with: Sri Annam Thanjavur Ponni Raw Rice, 777 Mango Ginger Pickle, 777 Puliyodharai Rice Paste
