777 goes back to 1933 and Hotel Sri Rama Bhavan on Thambu Chetty Street, the Madras hotel of brothers R.S. Narayanasamy Iyer and R.S. Ganapathy Iyer. Puliyodharai paste, also known as puli kaachal, is tamarind cooked down thick with spices and oil, ready to mix into rice.
