What it is

Sweet Karam Coffee is a Chennai brand, started in 2015 by Nalini Parthiban and Anand Bharadwaj and built on Janaki Paati's recipes. Most Kerala jackfruit chips are the salted kind, made from jackfruit before it ripens. These are the opposite: ripe jackfruit bulbs, fried so they keep the fruit's own sweetness.

They are vacuum fried, which cooks them at a lower temperature, so the pieces come out light and crisp and taste strongly of ripe chakka. The ingredients are just jackfruit and sunflower oil. Choosing between jackfruit chips? Ripe for sweet and fruity, classic salted for savoury crunch, banana chips for the everyday option.

Tip: Crumble a few over vanilla ice cream or a bowl of payasam. It tastes like jackfruit season.
