What it is

Sweet Karam Coffee is a Chennai snack brand. It was started in 2015 by Nalini Parthiban and Anand Bharadwaj, around the recipes of Janaki Paati. Kara boondi, the spicy one, is the savoury cousin of the sweet boondi in a laddu: the same small drops of gram-flour batter, fried crisp and seasoned instead of soaked in syrup.

This bag mixes the pearls with peanuts, cashews, curry leaves, chilli powder and hing. It is crunchy, salty and gently hot. Choosing a Sweet Karam Coffee snack? Kara boondi for a spicy nibble, Kerala garlic mixture for more garlic, kai murukku for a bigger crunch.
