What it is

Sohum is the Maharashtrian food company started by the late Smt. Sushila Gargate at Khed Shivapur, near Pune. Laddus are one of its steady lines, made the way a Pune kitchen would make them.

This one is moong dal, roasted and ground, then bound with ghee and sugar and scented with cardamom. It is paler and softer than a besan laddu, with a cleaner finish that lets the roasted dal come through. Choosing between laddus? Moong for mild and melting; besan for the familiar festival classic; nachani for something darker and earthier.

Tip: Put a few on a small steel plate with chakli and chivda, and you have a faral plate ready for visitors.
