Seeraga Samba rice, also called seeraga samba arisi (Tamil).
What it is
Seeraga samba is named for its grain, short and slim like a seed of seeragam (cumin). It is grown in Tamil Nadu and it is the rice in Dindigul, Ambur and most Tamil wedding biryanis.
The grain carries a gentle fragrance and takes in ghee and masala right to the middle, so the biryani tastes of one whole pot. It swells less than basmati and cooks faster. This 5 kg bag is for homes that cook biryani every weekend, or for Eid and party cooking. Choosing between biryani rice? Seeraga samba for Tamil biryani; basmati for long Hyderabadi grains; sona masoori for daily rice.
Tip: For a party pot, cook in two batches. Seeraga samba breaks if a very deep pot is stirred too much.
Goes well with: Veerah Dindigul Briyani Mix Paste, Cookd - Ambur Biryani Paste, Heera Butter Ghee
