Description
Description
The temple bell by the entrance, pulled on tiptoe as a child before going in.
- What: Pooja bell (mani, ghanti)
- Size: No.3, the largest of three
- Made from: Solid brass
- Best for: A full pooja room, festivals and gatherings
What it is
No.3 is the biggest of the three brass bells, closer to the sound of a temple than a shelf shrine. It is rung to open the pooja and through the aarti, and at Navaratri, Varalakshmi Vratham or a housewarming it carries through the whole house.
It sits heavy in the hand and a deep, resonant tone that keeps ringing after you stop. It will darken with use; that is patina, not damage. Choosing between bells? Pooja Brass Bell No.1 for a shelf shrine; Pooja Brass Bell No.2 for an everyday pooja room; No.3 for a full pooja room and festival days with family over.
Tip: Ring it slowly. A big bell sounds best with a pause between strokes, so each ring can fade.
Goes well with: Varalakshmi Amman Face Idol, Dheepam (Lamp) Oil, Pooja Brass Camphor Aarti No.2
