What it is

Pitambari Products was founded in 1989 by Ravindra Prabhudesai and his father Vamanrao Prabhudesai, and the company is based in Thane, Maharashtra. Its flagship product is Pitambari Shining Powder, a cleaner for copper, brass and other metal utensils.

This is that powder. Mixed into a paste with a little water, it lifts the dark tarnish off pooja lamps, bells, the kalash and old copper vessels, and it saves scrubbing with tamarind and salt. It is a cleaner only, not a food product. Choosing between cleaning methods? Pitambari for a quick shine on lamps and bells; tamarind and salt the old way for heavy black tarnish; a dry cloth for weekly dusting.

Tip: Clean lamps before filling them with oil, not after. Oil and polish together leave a sticky film.
