What it is

Every pooja shelf has a small stock of thiri somewhere, usually next to the matches. These are plain thread wicks, sold as a bunch, for the brass vilakku, clay agal lamps and the kuthuvilakku.

Pull out a length, twist it, and set it in the lamp with just the tip above the oil. A bunch covers a lot of evenings, and a good few more at Karthigai. Choosing between wicks?
