What it is

Karuppu kavuni is a traditional black rice of Tamil Nadu, best known in Chettinad homes, where kavuni arisi sweet with coconut and sugar is served at weddings.

The grains are dark and chewy, and turn deep purple as they cook, staining the pot and the water with them. The taste is mild and a little nutty, which is why it works as well in a sweet as beside a kuzhambu. Choosing between Natures traditional rices?
