What it is

Manna started in Chennai in 2000, when I.S.A.K. Nazar began with a mix based on sathumaavu, the Tamil multigrain porridge flour. Southern Health Foods, the company behind Manna, was bought by Reliance Consumer Products in February 2026.

Ragi malt is a finger millet drink mix, stirred into hot milk or water to make the brown, earthy drink that Karnataka and Tamil homes have made for generations. It tastes faintly of roasted grain and thickens the longer it sits. Choosing between ragi products? Ragi malt for a quick drink; Manna ragi flour for kali, dosa or a thicker kanji; ragi vermicelli for a savoury tiffin.

Tip: Mix the powder to a paste with a spoon of cold milk first, then pour in the hot milk. No lumps.
