What it is

ABC here means apple, beetroot and carrot, dried and ground into a fine powder that stirs into milk. It follows the malt drinks many of us had as children, just built on fruit and vegetables instead of grain.

Stirred into milk it turns a soft pinkish colour, with a mild, earthy sweetness from the beetroot and carrot and a light fruity note from the apple. Choosing between milk drinks? ABC malt for fruit and vegetables; Manna ragi malt for the classic ragi kanji taste; Horlicks for the malty one you remember.

Tip: Mix the powder to a paste with a spoon of milk first, then top up. No lumps.
