What it is

GRB began in 1984 with G.R. Balasubramaniam delivering butter around Bengaluru on a bicycle,, and it went on to become a ghee maker. These sweets are part of its range.

Bombay halwa, also known as Karachi halwa, is made from corn starch, sugar and ghee, cooked until it turns glassy and set with cashews. It is chewy and translucent, and it cuts into neat bright squares that sit well on a festival tray. Choosing between halwas? Bombay halwa for chewy and glossy; Tirunelveli halwa for dark and rich; mango halwa for a fruity one.

Tip: Wet the knife with warm water between cuts. The squares come away clean.
