What it is

GRB started in 1984 with G.R. Balasubramaniam delivering butter by bicycle in Bengaluru, and grew into a ghee maker; Town Bus is its snack range. This is its ready batter mix for bajji and bonda, the fried snacks of South Indian tea time.

Add water for a thick coating batter, dip sliced onion, raw banana, potato or chilli, and fry until crisp outside and soft inside. For bonda, roll potato masala into balls and dip them. Choosing between batters? GRB mix for quick bajji and bonda; Aashirvaad besan to build your own with rice flour and chilli; MTR vada mix when it is medu vadai instead.

Tip: Slice raw banana lengthwise and thin, about 3 mm. Thicker slices stay hard in the middle.
