What it is

Daawat basmati comes from LT Foods, a family business founded by Raghunath Arora in the Amritsar basmati-growing belt of Punjab.

Original is the everyday Daawat basmati: long, slender white grains that roughly double in length as they cook and stay separate if you soak them first. Ten kilos is the bag for a house where pulao and biryani come round every week. Choosing between Daawat basmatis? Original for pulao, jeera rice and everyday biryani; Extra Long for the longest grain on a festive plate; Golden Sella for firm grains in big-batch biryani.

Tip: After draining, put the rice back in the pot with the lid on for 10 minutes off the heat. The grains finish in their own steam.
