What it is

GRB began in 1984 with G.R. Balasubramaniam delivering butter by bicycle around Bengaluru. Ghee came next, and it has been the heart of the brand ever since.

This is cow's milk ghee, golden and grainy when it sets, with the smell of a kitchen on a festival morning. It goes over hot rice with dal, into ven pongal, in kesari and Mysore pak, and in the pan for frying cashews. Choosing between ghee? GRB 1 kg for households that use it daily; the GRB 500 ml tin for a smaller pantry; Amul ghee for the familiar North Indian taste.

Tip: Always use a dry spoon. A drop of water in the jar is what spoils ghee.
