What it is

Chitale Bandhu Mithaiwale is the Pune sweet and snack house started in 1950 by brothers Raghunath and Narsinha Chitale, which grew out of a dairy business their father B.G. Chitale began in 1939.

Potato sali, thin fried potato sticks, makes up just over half the pack (53%). It is tossed with roasted coconut slices, peanuts, sugar and red chilli (3%), so the sweetness comes first and the chilli catches up. Choosing between Chitale potato mixes? Spicy potato for heat; the regular potato chivda for milder; cornflakes chivda for a lighter crunch.

Tip: Scatter a handful over pav bhaji or a plate of bhel just before serving for extra crunch.
