What it is
Chitale Bandhu Mithaiwale was founded in Pune in 1950 by brothers Raghunath and Narsinha Chitale. It grew out of a dairy business their father B.G. Chitale started in 1939.
Chakli is the Maharashtrian cousin of murukku, made from rice flour with Bengal gram, urad and moong flours, then spiced with chilli, hing, ajwain and sesame. It is tighter and crunchier than a Tamil thenkuzhal, and a Diwali faral plate is not complete without it. Choosing between spiral snacks? Chitale chakli for lentil-rich crunch; Town Bus chakli for a South Indian version; A2B butter murukku for soft and plain.
Tip: Break one over a bowl of plain poha or upma. It adds the crunch the dish is missing.
Goes well with: Chitale Bandhu Bakarwadi, Chitale Bandhu Patal Poha Chivda, Tata Tea Chakra Gold
