What it is

Chitale Bandhu Mithaiwale opened in Pune in 1950, started by brothers Raghunath and Narsinha Chitale, and it grew out of the dairy their father B.G. Chitale began in 1939. Bakarwadi, the snack most people know them for, followed in 1970.

These are thin banana slices fried in palm oil, then tossed in chilli, black salt, dry mango powder, a little sugar and a long list of chaat-masala spices. Crunchy, sour and hot, with a faint sweetness at the end. Choosing between banana chips?
