What it is
Chheda's started in 1993 with banana chips and still makes them in Palghar district, at its Manor and Wada units. The Mumbai company now turns out potato chips and namkeens as well, and sends its packs out to several countries.
This is the plain one: raw banana fried in turmeric-tinted oil, which is where the yellow comes from, and then salted. Nothing else on it. It is the wafer eaten by the handful and the one that goes into a school box without argument. Choosing between the wafers? Yellow for plain salted, salt and pepper when you want a bite, long masala for chaat seasoning.
Tip: Crush a handful over curd rice for a child who has decided curd rice is boring.
Goes well with: Britannia Little Hearts, Bru Instant Coffee, A2B Mini Thattai
