What it is

Bru was launched in 1968 and, according to Hindustan Unilever, was India's first coffee-chicory instant coffee. It sources its coffee from South Indian plantations. Bru Gold is the other side of the range: freeze-dried granules of pure coffee, with no chicory.

The granules are chunky and golden-brown, and the cup is smoother and cleaner than regular Bru, without chicory's bitter edge. It dissolves in seconds, even in warm milk. Choosing between Bru coffees? Gold for pure instant coffee; Bru Instant for the familiar coffee-chicory taste; Green Label for filter decoction.

Tip: Try it black with half a spoon of jaggery powder. Without chicory, it doesn't need milk to taste right.
