What it is

Aashirvaad is owned by ITC and was launched in 2002. You will know the bag straight away: Madhubani-style art showing rural farming scenes, on every pack.

Chakki atta is whole wheat flour ground in a chakki, the flour mill. It makes a soft dough that rolls out thin and round without tearing, and it puffs well for phulkas and holds up for parathas and pooris. Choosing between flours? Chakki atta for everyday rotis; Aashirvaad multigrain if you like other grains in the mix; besan when it is pakoda night instead.

Tip: Knead with warm water and a spoon of oil, then leave it covered for 20 minutes. The rest is what makes them soft.
