What it is
The name 777 comes from the licence number the business was given under India's Fruit Products Order. Thakkali urugai is tomato cooked into oil with chilli and spice, so it keeps in the jar far longer than a fresh chutney.
It is sour and hot, looser and oilier than a thokku, and meant to be eaten a little at a time with something plain. Choosing between 777 tomato jars? Tangy Tomato Pickle for everyday sourness; Tomato Andhra Style Pickle for more fire; the Tangy Tomato Thokku for spreading inside dosai.
Tip: Put a teaspoon at the side of the plate, not on the rice. Mix it in a little at a time.
Goes well with: Sri Annam Thanjavur Ponni Raw Rice, Udhaiyam Appalam, 777 Lime Pickle
