In Telugu homes, Vinayaka Chavithi is not complete without undrallu. They are plain and savoury, made from coarse rice rava with a little moong dal and cumin, rolled into small smooth balls and steamed.
They are offered in odd numbers, usually nine or eleven, and they go on the plate alongside the sweet kudumulu. One without the other is considered only half an offering.
There is no filling and no shaping technique to master, which makes this a good one to hand to somebody else in the kitchen while you deal with the pleating. Work quickly, though: the mixture must be rolled while it is still warm or the surface cracks.
