Five ingredients, no cooking, ten minutes. In Karnataka this is the first thing offered to Ganapati and, reliably, the last thing left on the plate at the end of the day.
The name means five parts, and the five are roasted gram, jaggery, dry coconut, sesame and ghee, mixed together with your fingertips rather than a spoon. Nothing goes near a flame except the sesame, which is roasted until it pops.
If you are cooking for Chaturthi and running out of morning, this is the one to make. It asks for nothing but a bowl and ten minutes, and it is a genuine offering rather than a shortcut.
Everything you need for this recipe is on the shelf at One Place Bazaar, delivered to all 32 counties. See the rest of our Ganesh Chaturthi recipes.
