Kudumulu is the sweet half of the Telugu Chaturthi offering, and undrallu is the savoury half. They are made together, offered together, and eaten together, and no Telugu household would put one on the plate without the other.
The filling is coconut and jaggery cooked down thick, the same as its Tamil and Maharashtrian cousins, but the shape is different again: closed into a smooth round ball rather than pinched into a peak. Seal the join firmly. A kudumulu that opens in the steamer leaves its filling stuck to the plate and there is no rescuing it.
