What it is

GRB began in 1984 with G.R. Balasubramaniam delivering butter around Bengaluru on a bicycle. Town Bus is its snack range, made near Madurai.

Khara sev is gram-flour dough pressed through a sev mould and fried into thick, crunchy strands with a savoury, spicy kick. It is good by the handful from the pack, and even better scattered over poha, upma, bhel or a bowl of noodles. Choosing between sev? Khara sev for thick and crunchy; A2B pepper sev for a peppery bite; Chitale Bandhu masala shev for the Maharashtrian kind.

Tip: Add it at the very last second. Sev on hot poha goes soft in a minute.
