What it is

Tata Salt was launched in 1983 as India's first national brand of packaged iodised salt, and it is known by the tagline 'Desh Ka Namak', the nation's salt. It is part of Tata Consumer Products.

This is the low sodium version. The pack lists sodium chloride and potassium chloride, with iodine and an anticaking agent. It is fine and free-flowing and goes in wherever ordinary salt would. On its own, on a slice of cucumber, you may notice it tastes a little different; in sambar or dal most people cannot tell. Choosing between salts? Low sodium if that is what your house uses; regular Tata Salt for everyday cooking; Tata crystal salt for pickles and brine.

Tip: Add it in two stages the first few times, then taste. It is easy to over-salt while you get used to it.
