What it is

Sweet Karam Coffee is a Chennai snack brand started in 2015 by Nalini Parthiban and Anand Bharadwaj, working from the recipes of Janaki Paati. Their range reaches past Tamil Nadu, and these are the Kerala chips.

There are only three things in the pack: banana, coconut oil and salt. They are crisp and salty, and the coconut oil is what you taste first. On an Onam sadhya leaf they go in the top corner, beside the sharkara varatti. Choosing between Kerala chips? Banana for the classic; tapioca (kappa) for a harder crunch; jackfruit for a denser, slightly sweet chip.

Tip: Crush a handful over curd rice or a bowl of rasam sadam for crunch.
