What it is

Kali pakku is the dark, cut areca nut that sits beside betel leaves on the thambulam plate. At weddings, engagements, seemantham and the Varalakshmi pooja, vethalai-pakku is offered first and then handed to guests as they leave, usually with a coconut, fruit or a little kumkum.
