What it is
Gopuram was started in Chennai in 1945 by Sri Y. V. Seshachalam, and is best known for its kumkum, alongside turmeric, vibuthi, sandal and sambrani. This small tin is its pooja turmeric, sized for the shelf rather than the kitchen.
A few drops of water turn a pinch into paste for a manjal Pillaiyar at the start of a pooja, for the doorstep, or for the thali thread. Mixed with a little slaked lime it turns red and becomes kumkum. Choosing between Gopuram tins? Turmeric for manjal and paste; kumkum for the red; kasturi manjal for the face paste.
Tip: Mix the paste on a small steel plate with a drop of water, not straight in the tin, so the rest stays dry.
Goes well with: Gopuram Kumkum Small Tin, Nizzam Pakku (5 pcs), Sri Durga Vinayagar Kit
