What it is

Sowbaghya was founded in Chennai in 1978 and made its name with wet grinders. It says it was the first wet grinder maker in India to receive ISO 9001 certification from TUV Germany.

This is its stainless steel idli cooker from the Ultima range, with four plates stacked on a stand inside the pot. The induction base means it works on an Irish induction hob as well as gas. Steel plates brown slightly less than aluminium and clean easily. Choosing idli gear? This cooker for regular idli; the paniyaram pan for leftover batter; the puttu cooker for Kerala breakfasts.

Tip: Wet a thin cotton cloth and lay it on the plates before pouring. Idlis lift off cleanly.
