What it is

Nescafe Sunrise is sold in India as an instant coffee-chicory mix, made from Arabica and Robusta beans that Nestle says come from farms in South India. This is the big pack, the size a busy household, office pantry or small shop gets through.

The chicory makes it darker and fuller than plain instant coffee, closer to a filter-coffee cup once it meets hot milk. Choosing between coffees? Sunrise for speed with a chicory taste, Bru instant for a lighter cup, Narasu's Udhayam filter powder for the mornings when there is time for the filter.

Tip: Beat the powder and sugar with a teaspoon of hot water until pale, then pour in hot milk. It froths like a hotel coffee.
