Pakku is areca nut, and seval pakku is the reddish kind, cut into pieces. In Tamil homes it sits on the thambulam plate with vethalai, fruit and flowers, set before guests at weddings, seemantham and Navaratri, and on the pooja plate beside the kumkum.
