What it is
Manna was started in Chennai in 2000 by I.S.A.K. Nazar, and its first product was a sathumaavu-style health mix. Millets have been the brand's thread ever since, and this ragi semiya is one of the quickest ways to cook with them.
The strands are brown from the ragi and cook in a few minutes. The taste is mild and slightly earthy, and it takes a tempering of mustard and curry leaves well. Choosing between ragi vermicelli? Manna 200 g for a small pack; Anil Ragi Vermicelli for bigger bags; Manna Rice Sevai for lemon or coconut sevai.
Tip: Rinse under cold water straight after draining. The upma stays loose instead of turning into one lump.
Goes well with: Heera Black Mustard Seeds, Heera Curry Leaves, 777 Coriander Leaf Chutney / Thokku
