What it is

Manna was started in Chennai in 2000 by I.S.A.K. Nazar, and its first product was a sathumaavu-style health mix. The badam mix sits alongside it as the quick way to a glass of badam milk.

Badam milk at home usually meant soaking and peeling almonds, grinding them and simmering with cardamom and saffron. This mix skips all that: a couple of spoons into milk and it is done. It settles as it stands, so give it a stir. Choosing between drink mixes? Manna Badam Mix for a small pack to try; GRB Badam Drink for a bigger tin; Horlicks for the malty cup.

Tip: Add a few strands of saffron to the warm milk before the mix goes in. It turns the glass a proper pale yellow.
