What it is

Laxminarayan has been making chiwda in Pune since 1945. Their dry bhel is the base of a bhelpuri, already mixed for you: puffed rice, gram-flour sev and peanuts with salt and spices. It saves making three separate things before anyone can eat.

Straight from the pack it is a light, crunchy namkeen. Add chopped onion, tomato, coriander, lemon and chutney and it turns into a plate of bhel, as long as it is eaten within minutes. Choosing between? Dry Bhel to build your own plate; Rice Flakes chiwda for ready-seasoned; Cornflakes Chiwda for a bigger crunch.

Tip: Mix it in the bowl you will eat from and add the wet things last. After five minutes it goes soft.
