What it is

The Osmania is one of the three biscuits Karachi Bakery is known for, beside the fruit biscuit and the dil kush. The bakery opened in Moazzam Jahi Market in Hyderabad in 1953 and is now run from Banjara Hills.

It is thicker and paler than a tea biscuit, with cardamom in the dough and salt and sugar arriving in the same bite, which reads as a mistake until you meet it beside a cup of Irani chai. Choosing between them? Osmania with tea, almond for the crumble, fruit biscuit when children are choosing.

Tip: Dunk one corner only. It is thicker than it looks and gives way all at once.
