Ganesha Idol Natural Clay 6 inch (Mukut)

A Pillaiyar small enough for the kitchen shelf, made to go back to the earth.

• What: Ganesha (Pillaiyar) idol with mukut crown
• Size: 6 inches
• Made from: Unfired natural clay, no plaster of Paris
• Best for: Vinayagar Chaturthi pooja at home

What it is

At home, Vinayagar Chaturthi started with bringing a clay Pillaiyar back from the market, carried carefully on someone's lap. This one is moulded from natural clay, with the mukut crown, the mouse at his feet and a modak in his hand, left unpainted apart from the red tilak and white tusks.

Because the clay is unfired, it softens and breaks down in water. Visarjan can be done at home in a bucket rather than needing a river, and the clay can go back into the garden afterwards.

Tip: Keep him away from kitchen steam until the day. Damp unfired clay chips easily.

Goes well with: Sri Durga Vinayagar Pooja Kit, Anil Kozhukattai Flour, Gopuram Kumkum
